Hibs are again battling it out with Aberdeen for a key transfer target with the Scottish Premiership rivals reported to be lining up a move for Motherwell midfielder Allan Campbell.

The Scotland Under-21 international is out of contract at the end of the season and while the Dons are understood to considering a pre-contract move during the January window, Hibs are reportedly eyeing up a potential move before the current window closes on Monday with head coach Jack Ross keen to bolster his midfield.

Motherwell are believed to value the 22-year-old around the seven-figure mark, which would price the Easter Road side out of a move this summer, while the Steelmen are also keen to retain Campbell and have offered him a new deal.

The midfielder is also believed to have suitors south of the border, although any club wishing to prize him away from Motherwell on a pre-contract arrangement would still be required to stump up a £200,000 development fee for a player who came through the Fir Park youth system.

Hibs will be keen to avoid missing out on another target to Aberdeen after they were gazumped in the race to land Rangers midfielder Ross McCrorie last month after the player chose to join Pittodrie outfit, initially on a loan deal with a £350,000 three-year permament move next summer, while the Dons also won the battle to sign Funso Ojo from Scunthorpe United last season after the player seemed destined for Easter Road.
