The long-serving Rangers midfielder worked with the Hibs striker while he was part of the coaching staff at Dumbarton, whom Nisbet joined for a loan spell during his Partick Thistle days.

Three years before he would be the subject of a £3 million bid from Birmingham City, Nisbet failed to hit the back of the net in any of his 13 appearances for the Sons. Coupled with his form for Thistle that term, he went 25 games without a goal in what would prove to be his final year in Maryhill.

The next season he joined Raith Rovers in League One with renewed focus and determination to succeed. The rest, as they say, is history.

He’s been scoring goals consistently ever since and, off the back of 18 goals for Jack Ross’ men, Durrant believes he’s the right man to fire Scotland to glory this summer.

He told Lanarkshire Live Sport: "I was fortunate enough to work with Kevin Nisbet at a young age when I was at Dumbarton. We got him on loan from Partick Thistle.

"He was still a raw young boy at the time, but you could see the quality he had in terms of finishing even back then.

"He's gone to Hibs and had an absolutely superb season in terms of scoring goals. This is what Scotland have been crying out for for years - a natural goalscorer.

"Nesbit seems to have hit a rich vein of form at the right time, and he's a good goalscorer."
