Hibs striker Dominique Malonga will be hoping his impact as a substitute for Congo against Equatorial Guinea will have done enough to force him into the starting line-up for tonight’s Africa Cup of Nations clash with Gabon (kick-off 7.00pm GMT).

Malonga stepped off the bench to set up Thievy Bifouma’s equaliser for Congo against the host nation on Saturday in a 1-1 draw and the 25-year-old looked lively in his 12-minute appearance.

Congo need to beat the Gabonese, who won their opening match 2-0 against Burkina Faso, if they are to have a realistic chance of qualifying from Group A.

In yesterday’s Group D matches, Cameroon drew 1-1 with Mali and Guinea held one of the favourites Ivory Coast to 1-1 stalemate.
