Hibs’ hopes of signing Kevin Nisbet have received a boost with the striker revealing that he wanted to make the move to Easter Road in January.

Jack Ross tried to land the Dunfermline Athletic front man, who was also the subject of a bid from Dundee United, during the last window but the Fifers turned down six-figure offers from both clubs.

Nisbet says he is now ready to make the move to the Premiership, having backed up his 34-goal season in League One with Raith Rovers by scoring 23 goals for the Pars last term.

Hibs are reported to be weighing up another bid for the former Partick Thistle youth this summer, although the club have indicated that there will be no transfer activity until the current squad are back on full pay.

The Easter Road side will also face stiff competition for the striker’s signature, with Dundee United still keen to land the 23-year-old along with interest from clubs in England and abroad.

Nisbet said: “I’m flattered to be linked with some big clubs, it shows I am doing something right.

“The journey I have been on the last two seasons has been great and I have managed to show people what I can do.

“All the talk about Premiership clubs is my reward for all of the hard work I have put in over that time.

“I had a spell in the top-flight with Partick Thistle but looking back I probably wasn’t ready for it then.

“I was young and naive, but when I was released that’s when the penny finally dropped.

“It was a case of knuckling down and rebuilding my career by working my way back up.

“I always had confidence in myself that I could score goals regularly, so I went to Raith and John McGlynn was brilliant.

“He gave me the chance to play regularly and get among the goals.

“Thankfully I have been able to carry that on with Dunfermline.

“I will always be grateful to them for giving me the chance to go up a level and play Championship football.

“But now I feel I am ready to take that next step in my career and play Premiership football every week.

“There was a lot of interest in January and Hibs put an offer in, and I wanted to go.

“It looked like it was going to happen, but then the bid was rejected, as was the one from Dundee United, and I stayed at Dunfermline. Of course, I was disappointed the move didn’t happen for me.

“But it didn’t stop me performing for Dunfermline for the rest of the season.

“Now I hope the chance comes along again and I can prove it to people.

“I believe I can kick on and do it at the top level in Scotland.

Speaking to the Scottish Sun, Nisbet added: “Everyone wants to play at the highest level they can and I think I can score goals for a top-six side and make an impact for them.”
