Hibs Under-20s slumped to their first defeat since September as Hamilton strolled to a 4-1 victory at Ainslie Park.
Daniel Armstrong opened the scoring after five minutes and Eamonn Brophy added to the visitors’ lead with goals in the 66th and 69th minute.
Conner Duthie missed a penalty, before Jordan Sinclair’s late strike gave Hibs hope, but Brophy’s hat-trick goal in the 90th minute killed off any lingering thoughts of a dramatic comeback.
Hamilton got the early break-through, after a defensive mix-up resulted in an unnecessary corner. Despite several blocks from the Hibs defence, Daniel Armstrong forced the ball home with five minutes gone.
Two minutes later Brophy tested goalkeeper Sean Brennan, and Hibs continued to struggle against the table-topping Hamilton outfit as Brophy almost added a second goal midway through the half.
Hibs looked to be gaining the ascendancy early in the second half when Lewis Allan’s shot was cleared off the line, but within five minutes of that, they were 3-0 down courtesy of Brophy’s quickfire double.
The first goal arrived on 66 minutes as the forward prodded home Armstrong’s low cross, and three minutes later Hibs failed to deal with a corner, giving Brophy the simple task of sweeping home into an empty net from two yards out.
Hibs rallied and won a penalty as Duthie’s strike was blocked with a hand, but Duthie’s penalty rattled the bar.
Sinclair fired in from 18 yards to give Hibs hope with an 84th minute goal.
But Brophy sealed his treble as he fired in from close range to seal his side’s emphatic victory over the in-form hosts.
Hibs’ Under-20 clash with Hearts on Monday has been postponed.
