Hibs boss Jack Ross has been hit with injury blows which has left him with a small squad. He hopes to add at least two players to the squad before the January transfer window closes on Friday.

They returned to league business on Wednesday with a comeback win over Hamilton Academical in Leith before a decent draw at third-placed Motherwell on Saturday. Ross rung the changes having made three subs by the 53rd minute in the victory over Accies.

Dundee United dropped points for only the second time in 13 league outings with a 1-1 draw with Greenock Morton on Saturday with Lawrence Shankland netting a late equaliser.

The last time Hibs met a Robbie Nelson side in a Scottish Cup replay they went on to win the competition in 2016.

Hibs team news: David Gray missed the match at Motherwell through illness but could make his return against Dundee United. With injuries to Jason Naismith and Ryan Porteous, Jack Ross is down to the bare bones.

Hibs (4-4-2): Marciano; Gray, Jackson, Hanlon, Stevenson; Boyle, Omeonga, Newell, Horgan; Kamberi, Doidge.

Dundee United team news: Nicky Clark misses out through injury and will do so for the rest of the season, while former Hibs midfielder Sam Stanton has departed for American side Phoenix Rising who play in the USL Championship.

Dundee United XI (4-3-3): Siegrist; Smith, Watson, Connolly, Robson; Harkes, Butcher, Powers; McMullan, Pawlett; Shankland.

Key clash: In the first match between the sides Calum Butcher certainly caught the attention for his unpredictably robust style of play in the middle of the park for United. He could be joined in the middle by Dillon Powers who is a recent addition. They will look to frustrate Hibs. Conversely Stephane Omeonga and Joe Newell had good games at Fir Park at the weekend. The Hibs midfield duo have the quality to show their opponents who are the top-flight team.

Last meeting: The teams drew 2-2 earlier in the month to produce this replay. Twice Hibs took the lead thanks to the excellent Martin Boyle but twice they were pegged back, first by Lawrence Shankland than Louis Appere.

Match details: Tuesday, 28 January. Easter Road, Edinburgh. Kick-off 7.45pm. Tickets available via the club's website.
