ISLAM FERUZ scored a fantastic goal but couldn’t prevent Hibs Development Squad losing 2-1 to Hamilton at New Douglas Park.
The match saw Joe McBride’s side continue their winless streak, which now stretches to four games since the beginning of the SPFL Development League campaign.
Darren McGregor, Jordon Forster and Sam Stanton featured in the match, which only sparked into life after the break.
Feruz’s wonderful effort would prove to be in vain, as goals from Marc Kelly and Ryan Tierney earned a victory for the hosts – coached by former Hibs star Guillaume Beuzelin. The first half was a fairly uneventful 45 minutes of football.
The closest either team came to scoring was when Steven Boyd hit the top of the bar with a free-kick from wide on the left.
The game was to burst into life soon after the break.
Hibs striker Feruz controlled a loose ball and his drive from the edge of the D found the net, thumping over the line via the crossbar.
The lead lasted just two minutes, though, as Kelly bundled the ball home from a Ross Cunningham cross.
Four minutes later, Hamilton took the lead as Tierney’s strike on the turn beat Sean Brennan from 18 yards out.
Hibs could not find an equaliser, and did not seriously test Alex Marshall after falling behind. Instead, Hamilton looked most likely to score a third. They almost did but Cunningham’s goal-bound effort was blocked by Feruz in the 74th minute.
