Jack Ross has given an update on striker Florian Kamberi ahead of the new season getting under way.

The 25-year-old has all but played his last game for the club as a result of comments he made following his loan move to Rangers in January – remarks the Hibs head coach branded “unusual”.

Kamberi enthusiastically described the switch as a “dream move” despite only joining the Ibrox side on a loan deal until the end of the season.

He has not been involved in any of Hibs’ pre-season matches and Ross has already confirmed that the club is keen to move the player on.

The former Grasshoppers forward, who has 12 months remaining on his Easter Road deal, has returned to his home in Switzerland and has been linked with a number of moves away, although a return to Rangers looks very unlikely.

Speaking at the club's East Mains training complex ahead of the 2020/21 Scottish Premiership season opener against Kilmarnock, Ross admitted that the issue was no closer to being resolved.

He said: “Those at the club who are responsible for that and his representatives are working to find a solution that suits both parties.

"Hopefully there will be a resolution sooner rather than later, for all concerned. It's not a headache or causing me any problems, but it will just help us to keep moving on as a club."

Ross also played down suggestions that Kamberi’s departure could clear the way for more new arrivals at the club to join summer signings Alex Gogic, Kevin Nisbet, and Drey Wright.

He said: “Even if Flo left, it wouldn't mean that we'd automatically be able to do anything in terms of bringing anyone else in.

"It's just about finding a solution, because it's not ideal having a player in your squad who's costing you, but not going to contribute anything on the pitch.

"We've only been able to bring in three while losing seven players, soon to be eight if Flo goes. But bringing in three that have a good chance of starting games is pleasing."
