HIBS’ promotion hopes were dealt a major blow today as Martin Boyle was ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee injury.

The player – currently on loan from Premiership side Dundee – has torn his medial ligament and will miss the play-offs.

Boyle, 22, who scored a fine opener as Hibs sealed second spot in the Championship with a 3-0 win at Falkirk on Saturday, tweeted: “Absolutely devastated to be missing the rest of the season. Scans show I’ve torn my medial ligament, terrible feeling.”

Head coach Alan Stubbs will now have to do without the player for the forthcoming play-offs which begin for Hibs on Wednesday, May 20 with a first-leg clash away to the winners of the quarter-final between Queen of the South and Rangers.

Stubbs is also sweating over the fitness of striker Farid El Alagui, who has a knee injury, and defender Jordon Forster, who, like Boyle, picked up a knock in the win at Falkirk.
