WIth Kyle Magennis poised to sign, what else can we expect from Hibs on transfer deadline day?

Hibs are expected to conclude the signing of St Mirren captain Kyle Magennis today – and that will probably be the only activity of note at Easter Road on transfer deadline day.

The Buddies accepted a six-figure bid from Hibs for their skipper on Friday and barring any late hitches, the 22-year-old will complete his switch to Jack Ross’ team.

Hibs are in a strong position right now, sitting third in the Scottish Premiership with 20 points from their opening ten matches, but Ross has been keen to add another all-action midfielder to his squad and Magennis fits the bill.

His arrival will, in part, make up for missing out on Ross McCrorie to Aberdeen. The Rangers youngster was close to joining Hibs before the Dons swooped in.

Both Hibs and Aberdeen have been linked with a move for Motherwell’s in-form Scotland Under-21 midfielder Allan Campbell and while he is heavily admired by the Easter Road hierarchy, it is understood a serious offer would be required to tempt the Steelmen into a sale, even if he is entering the final months of his contract.

Ross poured cold water on suggestions in the English press that Hibs are in for Crewe midfielder Ryan Wintle, although the Hibees boss did admit he was aware of the 23-year-old’s capabilities.

The Hibs squad is tight on numbers, so it is very unlikely that there will be departures unless a massive bid out of the blue comes in.

As long as the Magennis deal is concluded, this will go down as a good transfer window for Hibs. They have strengthened in key areas, with the summer arrivals of Alex Gogic and Drey Wright reinforcing the midfield, while Kevin Nisbet’s move from Dunfermline has so far been a roaring success. The shrewd acquisition of Jamie Murphy on loan from Rangers gives the team further experience and fresh impetus in attack.

Crucially, Hibs appear set to hold on to Martin Boyle after he signed a new contract, while striker Christian Doidge – subject of some minor interest from clubs in England and abroad – and in-form defender Ryan Porteous should be in the Capital until at least the turn of the year.
