Emotional night for Pescara players

Easter ROAD will act as something of a haven for a quartet of emotionally-scarred Italian Under-21s this evening.

Among the ‘Azzurrini’ squad for tonight’s friendly against Scotland Under-21s are four Pescara players who were on the pitch as Livorno’s Piermario Morosini died after collapsing during a Serie B match between the two teams a week past Saturday. Marco Verratti, Ciro Immobile, Marco Capuano and Lorenzo Insigne all played in that fateful encounter a mere 11 days ago.

Indeed Verratti, a highly-rated 19-year-old midfielder, even helped rush a stretcher on to the pitch in an ultimately fruitless effort to save the stricken Morosini, who was himself a member of the Italian Under-21 squad until 2009.

Tonight’s game in the Capital won’t, however, be the Pescara quartet’s first since that tragedy, as they returned to action with a 6-0 rout of Padova on Friday in which Immobile and Insigne both hit doubles.
