There's not usually a name to begin with until sleuths on supporter message boards do some digging and identify the mystery man. We've taken a look at 22 such men who Hibs have taken on trial in the last 20-or-so years... how many do you remember?
Former Ilves, KPV, PPT and FC Jazz midfielder played as a trialist in a goalless Edinburgh derby match. Returned to Finland with HJK before seeing out his career with Jazz
Moldovan defender who spent 7 years with Zimbru Chisinau. Move to Hibs fell through and he joined Bristol City before nomadic career took him to South Korea, Russia, Azerbaijan.

Burly Danish defensive midfielder who had spells with BK Skjold and Nykobing in his homeland. Trialled with Hibs in 2001 and went into management after retiring in 2009
Ex-Watford, Sheffield Utd and Birmingham defender who trialled in summer 2002. Short spells at Bolton, Scarborough and Gretna. Went into management with Ilkeston, Mansfield, Lincoln and Goole
Towering defender who won 2000 AFCON with Cameroon. Trialled in 2005 prior to joining MK Dons after spells in homeland, Mexico, South Korea, Portugal, Russia and Japan
Nigerian striker who left his homeland for spells with KSV Waregem, Genclerbirligi, FCV Dender and Altay SK before Hibs trial in 2001. Moved to Royal Antwerp and saw out career in Belgian amateur leagues
Slovenian striker who spent time in Austria, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Croatia, Switzerland, China, Australia, Vietnam and Iceland. Scored during trial in 2007 but wasn't offered deal
Ex-Dundee Utd, Reading and Kilmarnock winger turned out for Hibs in 2003 but returned to Tannadice. Ended career in juniors after spells at Partick, Morton, Dundee and Ayr.
Dutch striker given a chance by Tony Mowbray in 2006, but joined De Graafschap. Spent most of his career in his homeland, save for a three-year stint in Spain. Still playing at the age of 38 for DVS 33
Moroccan striker had a trial with Hibs in 2001 after stints at CO de Meknes, Ittihad FC, Club Africain, Sporting Gijon and Yokohama F Marinos. Returned to Tunisia before seeing out career in his homeland.
'Keeper given a chance in 1999. Spent most of his career in Serie C Played once for Inter Milan but got most gametime at Fasano in 1994/95, Gualdo in 1996/97 and Reggiana between 2000 and 2007
Icelandic striker who had trial spells with Dundee United and Hibs. Played once for East Stirlingshire before joining Aberdeen from Keflavik in 2004. Returned to Iceland after 3 games for the Dons
Surinamese right-back who started at Ajax before spending more than a decade in England with Ipswich, Fulham and Sheffield United among his clubs. Trial spell with Hibs prior to joining the Blades
French goalkeeper who had played for Tours and Brentford before Alan Stubbs gave him a trial. Later played for lower-league Dutch and French clubs and is currently with Quevilly-Rouen
Former Newcastle midfielder given a runout in the 2014/15 pre-season. Wasn't offered a deal and signed for Blyth Spartans before moving on to South Shields in the Northern Premier League
Colourful character who had trial in July 2017 but ended up joining Billericay Town in the Isthmian League. Career took him from Arsenal to Liverpool to Real Zaragoza to Stoke via a host of loan spells.
Well-travelled striker trialled during July 2018 and now plays for Hermannstadt in Romania. Has played in Croatia, Belgium, Bosnia, Austria, Moldova, Greece and France.
Former Cardiff winger who had a trial in summer 2014. Later joined Oxford City, moving on to Eastleigh, Barnet and Ebbsfleet. Now with Bromley in the National League.
Ex-Wigan youngster handed a trial in summer of 2014. Ended up joining Accrington Stanley and after a brief spell with Portsmouth, joined current club Tranmere in February 2017
Trialled for Hibs in summer 2012 but joined Dundee. Currently with Ayr having spent time with Falkirk, Dundee United, Aberdeen, Asteras Tripolis, Dunfermline, Dundee, Partick and Queen of the South
Ex-Celtic youngster trialled in July 2011 but chose to join St Johnstone on loan from Bulgaria's CSKA Sofia. Joined Kilmarnock then had spells in Cyprus and Poland and is now at Wellington Phoenix
West Brom 'keeper given a trial in the 2015/16 pre-season, but a proposed loan deal didn't happen. Still with the Baggies but appears to be fourth-choice.
