Lewis Allan celebrated signing a new deal with Hibs in the finest fashion – by claiming a hat-trick in victory over Inverness yesterday.
Allan opened the scoring after 15 minutes, slamming a shot home, but Callum Ferguson made it 1-1 at the interval.
The forward from Melrose added a superb second shortly after the break and completed his treble in the 75th minute. It was a nervy end as Jason Brown headed in late on, but Hibs emerged victorious.
Danny Handling and Taylor Hendry both came close to opening the scoring, but the latter provided the assist for Allan in the 15th minute and the forward netted with the goal at his mercy.
Caley levelled as Ferguson’s fine strike flew beyond the reach of goalkeeper Kleton Perntreou three minutes before the half-time break.
Allan bagged his second a minute after the second half started. The forward controlled the ball, used skill to engineer space for himself in the box, and thundered a volley home.
Hibs remained comfortable throughout the match, with Aaron Dunsmore and Jordan Sinclair both going close to adding a third. But that task fell to Allan, who latched onto a long pass and guided the ball into the net from 18 yards in the 75th minute.
The match was not over, however, as Brown capitalised on a goalkeeping error from Perntreou to nod home a free-kick in the 81st minute. Ferguson came close to equalising but his header flew over the bar and but Joe McBride’s team held out to claim the three points.
