Michael Weir: Hibs naive performance in Aberdeen left me cringing

You can't expect to win games losing the goals Hibs did at Pittodrie on Friday.

We looked so naive at times, and I was cringing looking at it, thinking to myself 'just play the ball into space and get up the pitch'. But we tried to play football and just invited them onto us. It was the same against Hearts. We don't seem to know how to ride a storm in a game. These periods are always going to happen in games and I don't know if we've got the strongest mentality to deal with it - and that's the worrying thing for me.

It doesn't matter what formation you set up - if you lose the goals we lost in the first 15 minutes then you're not going to win football matches at that level. It was very, very poor and it's the first time Jack Ross has really been angry with them in terms of goals we lost.

When you go to places like Pittodrie you've just got to be stronger and make sure you don't lose goals early. It's just the basics of football, but in the first 15 minutes we played right into Aberdeen's hands. We tried to play football too early when sometimes you've just got to get up the pitch and be strong for the first 10 minutes.

You just have to make sure you're solid when you go to places like Aberdeen, Rangers and Celtic. You might get away with it against the lesser teams but the bigger clubs will always punish you. As long as they learn from it - that's the key.

The squad still is trying to find the right way to play but going up to Aberdeen I just thought we looked very, very weak. They saw that and pounced on it. We've got to have a stronger mentality to go to these type of games and be able to win them, especially now that other teams such as St Johnstone and Motherwell are starting to find their feet.

Celtic will be another tough one after the international break but we need to make sure we get a result somewhere along the line over the next couple of weeks to get us back on track.
