Michael Weir: Hibs' next two games are a big opportunity

The Betfred Cup tie against Dundee this weekend is a chance for Hibs to get their frustrations out.

You would expect them to be confident after beating them 4-1 a couple of weeks when Dundee never really got into the game.

It's an ideal opportunity for the players to get a result and get some confidence back after the disappointments against Celtic and St Johnstone.

They should seize that opportunity and I think they will.

We're going through a wee bad spell, but I think they can turn the corner. We just need to be stronger mentally and make sure we're more resilient when we get in front. There's a lot of good parts to the team so I'm hopeful they can get back on track with a couple of results.

The cup game will take care of itself, then Motherwell at Fir Park is a big game for us because it would be a massive three points to win there. They are one of the teams who are starting to catch up but if we can go there and get a result it would allow us to push on again.

I still think Aberdeen, in terms of strength in depth, are favourites to take third place but it's up to the players to deal with that. We're still at the stage of the season where anything can happen. Aberdeen have a game in hand but they've still got to win it. We've also got to make sure we nick a good win at Motherwell because it's a big opportunity to get us closer and make it harder for Aberdeen.
