Scott Allan completed a whirlwind couple of days by reporting back to Hibs’ Spanish training camp only hours after dashing home to witness the birth of his first child.
The midfielder got a call on Wednesday morning to say his partner Natalie had gone into labour early and he was immediately given the nod by boss Alan Stubbs to be at her bedside.
The 24-year-old’s presence on a flight from Alicante to Edinburgh that evening inevitably sparked speculation among fans that the player, who has been heavily linked with a move to Rangers this summer, was on his way back to complete the switch. But after making it to see son Zac born on Thursday, Allan was back on a plane first thing yesterday morning to rejoin his team-mates by lunchtime.
Stubbs said: “Scott got a phone call on Wednesday to say his girlfriend had gone into early labour and we got him on the earliest possible flight. It was great he was there for the birth but there was a willingness on his part to come back.”
