Only ‘serious’ bids would tempt Hibs into selling

Alan Stubbs has claimed it would take “something really serious” to even tempt him into considering losing one of his title-chasing squad during the upcoming January transfer window.

The Easter Road head coach knows a number of his players will be the centre of intense speculation with striker Jason Cummings at the top of that list as Sunderland, Bournemouth, Fulham. Leeds United, Cardiff and Derby among others are reported to be tracking the 20-year-old.

However, Stubbs insisted he’s more interested in strengthening his squad in the coming weeks, revealing he’ll be in a position to do so if a player he wants becomes available.

“It doesn’t bother me,” declared the Hibs boss when asked about the likelihood of his players being linked with mid-season moves, adding: “That’s football. I’m not afraid to speak about clubs being interested in my players. But the most important thing I must stress is that our mindset right now is that no-one will be leaving.

“But we know football can change very quickly. But, if someone is interested, it’s going to have to be something really serious for us to even consider anything in January. And when I say serious, I mean serious.

“Every player has a value. Whichever division you’re in, whether that’s in England, Scotland, Wales or in Europe, every player has a value.

“If someone meets that value, then you have a decision to make. But, as I’ve said all along, the decision as it was earlier on in the season when we made our stance [over Scott Allan], will be in the best interests of Hibernian Football Club.

“If, and when, that comes, we’ll speak about it with the player as well. And they we’ll make a decision.

“But we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it in January. We’re more focused on players coming in than anybody leaving. I hope I can make some signings. If the right players become available in January then we will certainly be in a position to strengthen.

“It’s not going to be a lot of players. It may be none, it may be one or two. I can’t see it being many more because I’m really happy with the squad. It’s only a couple of positions that we might look at, but I must stress it’s only if the right players become available.

“I’ve got lots of players in mind but getting hold of them is another dilemma, and them becoming available is another dilemma. But January will take care of itself one way or another. It’s December I’m focusing on right now, January is at the back of my mind.”
