As Hibs head to Glasgow looking to leapfrog Rangers in the Championship tonight, we look back on the Easter Road side’s five victories at Ibrox over the past decade:
• Rangers 0 Hibs 3 (27 August 2005)
Known to Hibs fans as “the Ivan Sproule game”, this was the day the previously unheralded Northern Irish winger stepped off the bench and ran Rangers ragged with a hat-trick in the last quarter of the match. His goals would provide Hibs with their first win at Ibrox in ten years.
Hibs team: Malkowski, Whittaker, Hogg, Smith, Murphy, Beuzelin, Stewart, Scott Brown, Thomson (Glass 90), Shiels (Fletcher 73), O’Connor (Sproule 63).
• Rangers 0 Hibs 3 (4 February 2006)
Little more than five months after Sproule’s heroics, Tony Mowbray’s Hibees returned to Ibrox in the Scottish Cup fourth round and pulled off another 3-0 victory. Again they hit all three of their goals after the break, but this time Sproule would have to content himself with just one goal. It was sandwiched by strikes from Garry O’Connor and Chris Killen in front of a Broomloan Stand packed with Hibs fans.
Hibs team: Simon Brown, Whittaker, Caldwell, Hogg, Murphy, Sproule, Thomson (Glass 7), Scott Brown (Killen 60), Stewart, Fletcher (Riordan 64), O’Connor.
• Rangers 0 Hibs 1 (6 October 2007)
John Collins’ Hibs side moved to the top of the SPL as they maintained their unbeaten start to the season against a Rangers side who had just won 3-0 away to Lyon in the Champions League. Left-back David Murphy headed in the only goal from a Filipe Morais corner kick after 59 minutes.
Hibs team: Makalambay, McCann, Hogg, Jones, Murphy, Antoine-Curier (Zemmama 74), Kerr, Beuzelin, Chisholm, Donaldson (Morais 46), Fletcher (O’Brien 82).
• Rangers 0 Hibs 3 (10 November 2010)
Hibs had been struggling badly in the bottom half of the table, but they claimed the first points of recently-installed manager Colin Calderwood’s reign in the most stunning and unexpcted fashion. Liam Miller’s swerving shot gave the visitors an early lead before John Rankin doubled their advantage from the edge of the box. Francis Dickoh lashed in a late third.
Hibs team: Mark Brown, Hart, Grounds, Murray (Thicot 63), Dickoh, Bamba, De Graaf, Rankin, Wotherspoon (Galbraith 63), Miller, Trakys (Hogg 89).
• Rangers 1 Hibs 3 (29 September 2014)
Hibs had lost four of their opening six Championship matches, but on this Monday night at Ibrox things finally clicked for Alan Stubbs’ side. Three goals in the space of 14 first-half minutes did the damage, with Jason Cummings netting a double either side of a David Gray header. Nicky Law pulled one back in the second half, but Hibs held firm and kicked off a run in which they have lost only one league game in 17.
Hibs team: Oxley, Fontaine, Hanlon, Forster, Robertson, Stevenson, Craig, Gray (Booth 45), Allan, Cummings (Harris 81), Malonga.
