Scott Allan is the leading contender to replace the suspended Dylan McGeouch in Hibs’ midfield at Ibrox on Monday.
On-loan Celtic player McGeouch received a straight red card for a late challenge on Joe Cardle in Tuesday’s League Cup win at Ross County on Tuesday and, as a result, will miss the Championship trip to Rangers as well as the League Cup quarter-final at home to Dundee United next month.
Allan has started just four of Hibs’ nine competitive games this season, but was introduced as a substitute to shore up midfield immediately after McGeouch’s dismissal.
Allan, 22, and Matty Kennedy, 19, both recent Scotland Under-21 caps, were among the two most eye-catching of Hibs’ summer signings, but have dropped out of the starting XI in the last couple of matches.
Head coach Alan Stubbs is adamant they will soon start to flourish consistently in green and white. He said: “Scott and Matty’s performance levels have been good, but to ask them to go week in, week out when they’re young lads is a big ask. We’ll continue to manage them week to week until they fully find their feet.”
