Marvin Bartley has recalled the first time he met Conrad Logan at Hibs. The current Livingston captain was speaking on the While the Chief podcast, and had plenty of stories from his time in English football as well as north of the Border.

Irishman Logan, dubbed the Polar Bear, was a surprise short-term signing for the Easter Road side after Mark Oxley incurred a suspension after picking up a booking in the quarter-final replay win against Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

With back-up shot-stopper Otso Virtanen the only other available first-team goalie, the burly goalkeeper was pitched in at the deep end in the Scottish Cup semi-final against Dundee United at Hampden.

'You've had a good couple of years!’

Laughing as he retold the story of his first encounter with the former Leicester City ‘keeper, Bartley said: “Conrad Logan came into the dressing room and he was taking his clothes off, and I’m sitting there thinking, ‘f*****g hell big man, you’ve had a good couple of years, haven’t you?

“He was so out of shape that if you’d met him on holiday and didn’t know who he was, and your missus was talking to his missus and said, ‘oh her husband plays football’ and you saw him getting in the pool you’d be thinking, ‘No f*****g way does that guy play football at any level’.

“He was a state, to put it nicely. I was like, ‘how are you?’ and he was like, ‘yeah, had a bad injury and put on a little bit of weight’ and I remember saying ‘a little bit?!’ and he just burst out laughing and I think that broke the ice.”

Logan pulled off a number of saves during the regulation 90 minutes and additional half-hour of extra time in that last-four encounter at Hampden, before pulling off two save in the subsequent penalty shoot-out to help seal Hibs’ passage to the final, where he was part of the team to make history by winning the trophy for the first time in 114 years.
