Stevie Mallan update as Hibs midfielder linked with temporary Easter Road exit

Following the arrivals of Jackson Irvine and Chris Cadden in the early part of the January transfer window, there has been much speculation over Stevie Mallan’s future at Hibs.

The midfielder, who has scored four goals in 20 appearances for the Easter Road side this season, hasn't been able to nail down a regular starting berth under Jack Ross and the 24-year-old had been linked earlier this month with a return on loan to former club St Mirren.

However, a move back to his previous employers looks unlikely despite the increased competition for midfield slots in Leith.

The Paisley Daily Express reports that the Buddies are not currently looking at bringing Mallan back for a second stint in black and white.

Transfer connection

There has been plenty of transfer business between the two sides in recent seasons with John McGinn and Kyle Magennis both joining the Capital club from the Buddies while Mallan began his senior career there before a stint in England with Barnsley.

Hibs head coach Jack Ross and No.2 John Potter both played for the Buddies while current Easter Road squad members Paul McGinn, Stephen McGinn, Darren McGregor and goalkeeping coach Craig Samson can also count St Mirren among their former clubs.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Ofir Marciano is currently in talks with the club over extending his stay. The 31-year-old's current deal expires in the summer but it is understood that the Hibs hierarchy are keen to secure him, and influential midfielder Joe Newell, on new contracts while the Israeli internationalist could return to the starting line-up when Hibs take on St Johnstone at Hampden on Saturday in the Betfred Cup semi-final.
