Hutchie see a chance to endrun of bad luck

Recent results have read like a catalogue of hard luck stories for Hutchison Vale’s ladies, but manager Ian McDonald believes it’s time for this side to write its own chapter into the club’s history books and achieve their highest-ever league placing.

Hutchie face Inverness City tomorrow at Spartans Academy (kick-off 2.00pm) in a game that could go a long way in determining the shape of the season to come for the respective sides.

Both teams are just four points from the foot of the Scottish Women’s Premier League and three points would be massive for the winner.

McDonald said: “The match against Inverness is enormous for us because it’s one that we’ve targeted three points from.

“Recently we’ve played well and put in some good performances, but we’ve not taken anything from those games other than praise.

“Now, we must start putting points on the board and hopefully claw-back some of the goal difference.

“Inverness is a big, strong and powerful side that will give our girls a physical challenge, but we must try to play our own game and not get drawn into a battle.”

Hibernian Ladies face Aberdeen at Keith Park (kick-off 2.00pm) and the Hibees are hoping to put in a rock solid performance in the Granite City.

The girls in green are confident they can extend their recent run of good form, but will be wary of the familiar threat the Dons possess.

Hibs coach Willie Kirk commented: “Aberdeen will be extremely difficult opponents and they’ve been a fantastic addition to the Premier League.

“They’re particularly strong at home and will fancy their chances of taking three points against us.

“Their striker, Rebecca Dempster, was with us last season, so we know all about them and the quality they have in their side.

“We must keep the pressure on Glasgow City and we can only do that by returning to Edinburgh with all three points.”

League leaders Glasgow City, who are currently three points ahead of Hibernian with both sides having played seven matches, and Spartans come face-to-face at Petershill Park, Glasgow (kick-off 2.00) on league business – just ten days before the pair meet again in the final of the Scottish Women’s Premier League Cup.

The Ainslie Park club will look to bring some of their cup performances into their league form after a disappointing start of the campaign.
