“Given the half time score, I’ve got to be pleased with the performance.” commented Coach McDonald. “We started well and created a number of opportunities and were punished for failing to take them.

“We keep giving teams a goal of a start, which is hurting us, but if we can rectify that then there is no reason why we can’t start climbing the table.”

Elsewhere, Hibernian Ladies kept the pressure on Scottish Women’s Premier League leaders Glasgow City with a convincing 5-0 victory over Falkirk.

A double from in-form Claire Emslie and single strikes by Frankie Brown, Kirsty McLaughlin and Joelle Murray ensured Hibs enjoyed a comfortable afternoon against the Bairns.

Coach Willie Kirk commented: “I was very pleased with the performance from the girls on a very difficult playing surface that wasn’t conducive to passing football.

“We controlled the game from start to finish, created lots of chances and Shannon [Lynn] didn’t have a save of note to make during the 90 minutes.”

Spartans journeyed to face Aberdeen and produced a rock-solid performance in the Granite City by earning the three points.

Midweek goal hero Sarah Ewens once more proved she has the golden touch in front of goal when she broke the deadlock early in the second half.

Former Hibs striker Rebecca Dempster quickly levelled for the home side and the game appeared to be ending in stalemate only for Dianna Barry to win it with a late penalty kick.
