Musselburgh Windsor braved Storm Dennis to boost their hopes of a higher finish in the Edinburgh East league with their 2-0 East Lothian derby defeat of Dunbar Athletic.

The home side were up against the wind in the first half, but restricted second place Dunbar to just one major chance from a free-kick, which Windsor’s goalkeeper did well to push away.

After a goalless first half, Musselburgh, currently sat in fourth spot in the table, took control after the interval. Stefan Hay took full advantage when the ball fell to him on the rebound to stroke home the opener on 55 minutes.

Both sides had a man sent off on the hour after a coming together, and with both teams going for it in search of the all important second goal, it was the hosts who would get it as Toby Mathews fired high into the net from 12 yards out.

Bank of Scotland Stroll to win over Fernieside

Bank of Scotland Strollers inflicted further damage on Lothian East bottom club Fernieside with a convincing 5-0 victory at Portobello High School.

The visitors were first to threaten, but home keeper Cammy McCullogh made two fine saves to prevent Fernie from taking an early lead.

In form Finlay Gibson would head in the opener for Strollers from captain Paul Armstrong’s cross for his sixth goal in just three games.

The scoreline would have been more had it not been for the efforts of Fernieside keeper Scott Walker, who kept them in it until Strollers finally found the net once more after 25 minutes when Ian Chalmers’ crossfield ball found Nick Perry who lifted the ball over Walker to score against his former club.

Chris Stone would put the game out of sight with five minutes to spare in the first half when he won the ball high up the pitch before finding the bottom corner of the net.

Strollers’ dominance continued after the interval, with Connor Preston crossing in for Gibson to net his second of the afternoon. Team-mate Stone would join him in netting his brace after he pounced on a defensive error, and he could have got his hat-trick goal from the penalty spot but Walker denied him with an expert save.
