It’s all about results for Craigroyston

Craigroyston manager, Ross McNeil, makes no bones about what his aims are for this season – achieving promotion into the Central Taxis Premier Division.

“That means it is not always about playing pretty football, more about getting results,” emphasised McNeil. “There are a lot of improved sides in this First Division and we know that it will be a tough task.”

Craigroyston travel to Shielfield tomorrow to meet Berwick Rangers Reserves who are second top with 17 points from eight games while Craigroyston have seven points from their four games.

Craigroyston’s excellent cup form has curtailed their league fixtures and last Saturday they beat Gretna 2008, 2-1 away from home in the semi-final of the Alex Jack Cup, a trophy they have won only once, away back in season 1993/1994.

“We played well and were worthy winners,” explained McNeil. “After a goal-less first half Chris Gordon scored two goals and although Gretna got a goal back we shut up shop and were delighted to get into the final.

“Berwick are a good young side with some quality players who are all trying to prove that they are worthy of playing in the Scottish Football League. However, we have good young players mixed with experience to give us a very good blend.”

McNeil will be without Paul Lynch who broke a bone in his foot in the semi-final while David Jeffrey has an injured knee.

The Berwick Rangers
Reserves manager, Mark Lamb, is without the injured duo of Steven Bennett and Grant
McNicol.
