It’s a stroll in the park for Hibs Ladies at Saughton

New signing Kirsty McLaughlin grabbed a double whilst Frankie Brown, Lisa Robertson, Joelle Murray, Rebecca Zoltie, Kirsty Smith and Hollie Thomson were also on target for the visitors.

Hibs coach Willie Kirk believes that every player must contribute with their fair share of goals this season if the club are to push for silverware.

He commented: “I was very pleased with the performance from the girls on what was a difficult surface to play passing football.

“Unlike last weekend we got the goals our performance merited, however the international break is coming at the wrong time for us because we want the games to come thick and fast so that we can build momentum.”

Hutchie’s hopes of an upset were hindered by the loss of four key players ahead of the fixture and the loss of influential centre-half Jennifer Malone who had to be replaced after suffering a suspected broken wrist during the first half.

Nonetheless coach Ian MacDonald believes his side contributed to their own downfall and will have to learn from those mistakes. “It very disappointing to be on the receiving end of such a heavy defeat because I didn’t think the scoreline was a fair reflection of the play,” he said.

“Four of the goals we lost were down to sloppy defending rather than good play from Hibs and that lack of concentration proved costly.

“It’s a learning curve for our girls but I was pleased to see they still tried to play football the right way throughout.”

Elsewhere, Spartans were beaten 3-0 by Celtic at Lennoxtown.

Former Hibs strikers Suzanne Grant (2) and Hayley Cunningham were on target for the Parkhead club against the below-par visitors.
