John Souttar misses out on Scotland call-up after receiving Under-21 place
Hearts defender John Souttar has been overlooked for a first Scotland cap after being named in Scot Gemmill's Under-21 squad to face Andorra and the Netherlands next month.
Souttar had been widely expected to be called up by Alex McLeish for a friendly against Belgium at Hampden in early September, a match which will be closely followed by Scotland’s opening game in the Nations League against Albania in Glasgow.
The 21-year-old was part of McLeish’s plans for the end-of-season tour to Peru and Mexico but was forced to pull out through injury.
But he was today named in the Scotland Under-21 squad - alongside Hibs trio Ryan Porteous, Oli Shaw and Stevie Mallan - for the European Championship qualifying matches against Andorra, at Tynecastle on Thursday September 6, and the Netherlands, in Doetinchem five days later.
Scotland Under-21s: Ryan Fulton (Hamilton), Robby McCrorie (Rangers), Ross Doohan (Celtic), Tom McIntyre (Reading), Ryan Porteous (Hibs), Liam Smith (Ayr United), Greg Taylor (Kilmarnock), Ryan Williamson (Dunfermline), Chris Cadden (Motherwell), Allan Campbell (Motherwell), Lewis Ferguson (Aberdeen), Billy Gilmour (Chelseas), Mikey Johnston (Celtic), Stevie Mallan (Hibs), Kyle Magennis (St Mirren), Iain Wilson (Kilmarnock), Oli Burke (WBA), Lewis Hornby (Everton), Oli Shaw( Hibs), Scott Wright (Aberdeen).
