Souttar had been widely expected to be called up by Alex McLeish for a friendly against Belgium at Hampden in early September, a match which will be closely followed by Scotland’s opening game in the Nations League against Albania in Glasgow.

The 21-year-old was part of McLeish’s plans for the end-of-season tour to Peru and Mexico but was forced to pull out through injury.
