Hearts defender Jordan McGhee captained Scotland Under-21s as they earned a late 1-1 draw against Switzerland in a friendly in Thun.
The Jambos’ reserve goalkeeper Jack Hamilton also played, while Hibs midfielder Danny Handling, who had been called into the squad as a late addition due to injuries, came on in the 56th minute.
Scotland suffered for the most part against their Swiss opponents and went in a goal down at the break after Musa Araz pounced on a loose ball in the penalty area from a corner kick and fired a low shot past a helpless Hamilton minutes before half-time. Scotland, however, grabbed an equaliser deep into injury time when Norwich City’s Cameron King slotted home from close range.
“We tried to contain them in the first half, but they were a good footballing side,” said interim coach Ricky Sbragia. “Our final ball was poor – but we survived.”
