Broxburn got the better of their Tayside opponents in this five-goal thriller. The hosts took the lead on the half hour when Nicholas Locke gathered the ball 25 yards out and fired into the bottom corner. Broughty equalised just before half-time when a ball was not cleared properly out the home box and the ball fell to Stewart McConachie, who gave Wallace no chance from 18 yards. Broxburn regained the lead on the hour mark when Ross Nimmo scored from the spot after a handball by a Broughty defender .The game was all square on 75 minutes with Jamie Winter racing clear and hitting the back of the net. The winner was sublime with Locke sliding the ball to Nimmo. who passed through to Miller, who sold the defence a dummy and let the ball run through to Kieran Anderson who slotted home.

Armadale turned up with no goalkeeper and only 11 players available. The visitors took the lead in the 18th minute with a strike from Brian King. The city side equalised through Sean Conlan to take the teams in level at the break. Second-half goals from Armadale’s Gary Brown and Edinburgh’s Ewan Wilson took the game to penalties which the city side won 4-2 to reach the next round.

South League side Blackburn shocked the hosts to progress to the next round and a tie against Musselburgh. Penicuik were held at bay by some excellent saves by keeper Gavin King. However, in the 37th minute, Blackburn broke quickly with a ball over the top of the Penicuik defence. Striker Andy McQuillan took full advantage to put the visitors ahead. Three minutes into the second half and Penicuik levelled the score when Ryan Gay’s cross saw Aaron Somerville’s diving header finally beat King. However, McQuillan hit back in the 73rd minute to score the winner with a thunderous strike from 25 yards.

Both sides are looking for at least a promotion play-off spot this season so it was always going to be tight affair. Both had chances to open the scoring but the goalkeepers were on top form. Forfar thought they could take advantage when Arniston’s Callaghan was sent off just after the hour mark but the Rangers held out well to take a share of the points.

These two sides used to serve up some cracking games in the Super League and Saturday’s was another fine example. Whitburn raced into a three-goal lead in the first half through a Jordan Bain double and Dewi Taylor. Bathgate responded after the break with a goal from Darren Dalrymple but Whitburn restored their three-goal lead when Martin Russell scored from the penalty spot. Bathgate had Jamie Clark sent off.
