Fauldhouse United 0

After an evenly matched first half-hour Newtongrange took the lead when Mathu King stole in behind the Fauldhouse defence to volley home a pin-point cross from Kris Renton. With the visitors having their fair share of possession the home defence stood firm and were rarely troubled. Just after the hour mark Fauldhouse keeper Andy Murphy could only watch as the ball slowly trickled over the line for Nitten’s second goal after he failed to hold onto a shot from
Steven Noble.

Newtongrange Star: Kieron Renton, McManus (Murray 45), Noble, Tolmie, Tulloch, Currie, Thomson, Cherrie (Wilson 64), Kris Renton, King (Coult 83), Cropley. Subs: Dunn, McQueen.

Another good win for Tranent in their race to take the South Division title. They now lead the race for the flag by 12 points from their nearest rivals Blackburn. Tranent opened the scoring on the half-hour mark when Darren Flynn knocked in a cross from the lively Steve Manson.
They had to wait until the 78th minute to add to that when Jamie Beaton scored from the spot after a handball in the box. Tranent manager Gary Small said: “We set out our stall before the season started and we’re way ahead of where we thought we would be.”
