Sandys knocked out fellow Premier Division outfit Meadowbank in the third round of the RJM Sports East of Scotland Cup, winning 3-1. They will discover their fourth-round opponents on Thursday.

Last season’s Premier champions Sandys have a 100 per-cent record in their league campaign and they edged past promoted Meadowbank in the Cup after a cagey opening 45 minutes which ended with Andrew Kidd firing them into the lead from the penalty spot after Kevin Stewart was felled.

Conceding so late in the opening half knocked Meadowbank out of their stride and they fell further behind when Robert McKenzie fired in after Sandys had twice struck the woodwork.

McKenzie would go on to net his second goal when he shot into the far corner of the net to put the game to bed. Meadowbank did manage to pull a goal back through Stewart Adams’ penalty with the last kick of the ball, but is was just a consolation.

Edinburgh Star joined Sandys in Thursday’s draw for the last eight after they beat Dunipace 2-0 on home turf.

Star controlled the opening period without creating many opportunities in front of goal, but were lethal when chances presented themselves after the interval.

Musselburgh Windsor are through to the third round of the South of Scotland Cup following their 2-0 home win against Tweedmouth Harrow with both goals coming in the second half.

The opener arrived on the hour when Danny Ballam’s pace sent him bursting into the area and he fired across goal to the back post where Dave Gallagher was positioned well to slot home.

Josh Jones secured the victory just five minutes later with a thunderbolt strike which crashed into the back of the net via the underside of the crossbar.
