Leigh Griffiths fails to score on Livingston return

LEIGH Griffiths returned to the club that kick-started his career, but failed to find the net as Wolverhampton Wanderers beat Livingston 2-1 at Almondvale.

The ground on which the Scotland striker made his professional debut over six years ago was bathed in sunshine as the home team sprung a surprise on Kenny Jackett’s side by taking a 12th-minute lead.

Jason Talbot’s first-time cross was volleyed home by Marc McNulty.

The English League One side slowly took control against a dogged Livi outfit, with Griffiths guilty of passing up three great chances.

George Elokobi levelled before half time after his 20-yard shot deflected past Darren Jamieson, then David Davis secured the win on 57 minutes.

Lions boss Richie Burke was happy with the run-out and said: “I’m very pleased with the progress we’ve made. As you can see, we’re a very young side. We’ve had massive budget
constraints to deal with and lost a lot of players at the club of seniority and status.

“If we get a striker and one more midfielder – with the group that we’ve got right now – we’ll be very happy with that.”
