Leith Athletic back in the driving seat for EoS title

The League leaders moved six points clear of their Capital rivals on Saturday with a 5-2 victory down at Coldstream while Lothian lost ground after suffering a 3-2 reversal against Tynecastle at Saughton.

With just four matches remaining, Riddel’s men could clinch the title this weekend should they claim three points from tomorrow night’s trip to Eyemouth and Lothian lose at Hawick Royal Albert.

Riddel said: “We were obviously delighted to see the score from Saughton. I thought Lothian would beat Tynecastle so to come away from Coldstream with three points and three points better off than Lothian was great. It’s now up to them to come and catch us and to be fair they’ve gotten very close so they’ll be disappointed to have dropped points at the weekend.

“We need seven points from our last four games so it’s still going to be hard. Midweek games are always difficult with the guys rushing away from their work and what have you. But we just have to keep playing the way we have been and hopefully pick up the points we need.

“We want it won before we play Lothian on the final day of the season. Teams obviously raise their game against sides sitting near the top so we’re expecting a tough match tomorrow night down at Eyemouth.”

Elsewhere, Civil Service Stollers consolidated third place in the table with a 3-1 victory over Duns at New Hawthorn Park.

Strollers have now won their last ten matches and are just three points adrift of second-placed Lothian.

Ian Ballatyne and a Kyle Boggie brace was enough to seal the points despite Alex Cunningham’s side going a goal down.

Spartans won their penultimate league game of the season with a 3-0 win over Hawick Royal Albert – Sean Stewart, Zac Walker and Jordan Brown all scoring whilst Ormiston suffered a surprising 4-3 home defeat to bottom club Eyemouth.
