Lennon is happy to hit the road for clash of the Saints

The teams drew 0-0 at St Mirren Park ten days before their third-round meeting, with the Perth side proving stubborn opponents as they sat in and frustrated Lennon’s men.

St Mirren have since lost 2-0 against in-form Hearts at Tynecastle but Lennon has a feeling that a more open contest at McDiarmid Park could suit his team.

“We certainly know it’s going to be a difficult game,” Lennon said.

“Perhaps on the road it will be a wee bit more open for us with St Johnstone having the onus of playing at home.

“They are a very, very well organised side and I think both managers would have been happy with the draw and can see an opportunity for their team to progress into the next round.”

Lennon’s players were frustrated after their draw against St Johnstone and have now gone three games without scoring but the St Mirren manager is confident results will come.

He said: “As long as we continue to make the clear-cut chances, we have to make sure we continue to work hard to make sure we get an end product from those chances.”
