Levein will give Miller every chance to recover

Kenny Miller’s groin strain will continue to be monitored ahead of Scotland’s forthcoming Euro 2012 qualifying double-header against Liechtenstein and Spain, a spokesman for the Scottish Football Association said today.

National team manager Craig Levein was encouraged by the results of a scan taken yesterday which showed the Cardiff striker’s injury did not require him to withdraw from the squad, as was first feared.

The former Rangers and Celtic striker is confident of playing a part for his country due to the marked improvement of his injury since Saturday when he had to go off early in City’s 2-1 defeat by Hull.

The Scotland squad will fly out from Glasgow on Thursday afternoon ahead of the Group I game against Liechtenstein in Vaduz on Saturday night before facing world and European champions Spain in Alicante three days later.

The inclusion of the Cardiff player would be a huge boost for Levein and the Tartan Army.

The Bluebirds striker scored one and set up the other goal in the 2-2 home draw with the Czech Republic last month but missed the following 1-0 win over Lithuania at Hampden through suspension.

Levein is hoping there is no further disruption to his squad after losing Stephen Crainey over the weekend, the Blackpool defender withdrawing with an ankle injury to be replaced by former Hearts defender Lee Wallace, now of Rangers.
