Linlithgow hat-trick hero Tommy Coyne puts team before goals
Rose moved into the third round after a comfortable victory and Coyne said: “It was good to get on the scoresheet – never mind a hat-trick – but the win was not about me. It was good to see the team show the kind of football we can play. We’ve had a poor run recently but in the last couple of weeks we’re turning the season around.”
Linlithgow started the game well and took a deserved lead after only ten minutes when Coyne picked up the ball at the near post and flicked it to the back post with the goalkeeper chasing it in vain as it rolled into the back of the net. A super finish.

Hide AdRose controlled the flow of the game for the rest of the half, showing some great skills. They grabbed a second in the 43rd minute when Coyne volleyed home from 15 yards following a great cross by Ross Gray.
Clydebank appeared down and out but for a while in the second half they had the better of the play. However, Linlithgow were more than capable of scoring again.
Some of their play drew loud applause from the home crowd which gave the players a lift in confidence.
Linlithgow keeper Darren Hill had to be at his best, though, on a couple of occasions to maintain their two-goal lead but a third goal was always on the cards for the home side and, when the referee blew for a handball on the goal line with 15 minutes left, there was only going to be one taker. Coyne scored to complete his hat-trick as Clydebank’s Jamie Darroch trudged off the field after being shown the red card.

Hide AdLinlithgow interim boss Todd Lumsden was a happy man. “It was good to see some of the football we played and, if we keep this up, it’ll be a good season for us. Tommy got the goals but we had good performances from a lot of players.”
