However, after a board meeting at the Tony Macaroni Arena, Wilson has quickly moved to allay any fears that the club will resort to running part-time next term.

“We had a long meeting on Saturday and we’ve decided to stay full time,” he said. “It was an unanimous decision. We certainly want to come back up at the first attempt. We know it’s not going to be easy but I think staying full-time can certainly help us achieve that. We’re also delighted David has agreed to take the team. He is the right man to take the club forward.”

Asked if the club’s long-term future could be in jeopardy due to the financial implications of relegation, Wilson added: “There are no doubts regarding our future whatsoever. There are no problems financially at all. The board will underwrite the shortfall of relegation. We know there is going to be some but that will be taken care of.”

Livingston have started to build for next season by signing centre backs Sean Crighton and Alan Lithgow from League One rivals Airdrieonians.
