Livingston have stepped up their preparations for the new season with the signing of midfielder Kieran Gibbons from Aberdeen.

The 20-year-old has put pen to paper on a one-year deal and is expected to play some part in Livi’s first pre-season clash against Stenhousemuir at Ochilview on Saturday.

Gibbons, who captained Aberdeen’s Under-20 side last season, has been training with manager Mark Burchill’s squad for the past week and, despite attracting interest from a number of other clubs, has committed his immediate future to the Championship side.

With Kyle Jacobs having signed for Championship rivals Queen of the South and brother Keaghan believed to be on trial with South African Premier League outfit Bidvest Wits, not to mention veteran Burton O’Brien’s decision to leave the club when his contract expired at the end of last season, the arrival of Gibbons will bolster Burchill’s options in midfield.
