Livingston victory would be so sweet for Charlie Telfer

The on-loan Dundee United player has yet to feature in a winning team this season having made just eight appearances for the Premiership’s bottom club, the Tannadice outfit losing all of those matches except the 2-2 draw with city rivals Dundee in August.

The 20-year-old also made a losing start to his Livi career after coming on as a second-half substitute in the 1-0 defeat by Dumbarton last month.

However, he is desperate to make amends for such a disappointing record starting with tomorrow’s home clash with title-chasing Hibs.

“I had a wee run of games at the start of December with United and we were unfortunate not to win them,” Telfer said. “When you’re in a winning team, everyone breeds off that confidence so it’s difficult when you’re in a bit of a rut and losing games.

“My first game with Livi was a bit unfortunate because the conditions were so bad through at Dumbarton and they got their goal because of the wind. So it’s not been a great season so far but I don’t see any reason why we can’t get a win tomorrow.

“I’ve only played one game but the standard is very high. I don’t see much of a difference to be honest between the Premiership and the Championship.

“We’ve had a couple of bounce matches this week and training’s been good so we’re confident we can get a result.

“Hibs are a fantastic team and I’ve seen them many times this year. Every position they have on the park they have real quality but we’ve just got to concentrate on our own game.”

Telfer is confident both Livi and Dundee United will beat the drop and his hoping some much-needed game time with David Hopkin’s men can revitalise his career on Tayside.

“I’m not even contemplating the prospect of either side being relegated this season,” he said. “I’m confident both teams will start picking up points soon and will stay up.

“He [Mixu Paatelainen] has always been very positive and honest with me and has told me to come back next season prepared and try and have a good season.

“It’s been difficult for them to try and get themselves out of the situation they’re in but I’m confident they will.

“I’m always desperate to see them get a result and as much as my focus is on Livingston, I do keep an eye on how United are doing. I hope I can get my first start tomorrow and then see how things progress from there.”
