Livi's Ben Gordon aims to take sting out of Wasps

The Lions are just four points better off than their opponents in ninth but Gordon, who spent four seasons with the Wasps before joining Livi on a two-year-deal last summer, believes this is an opportunity to finally distance themselves from his former employers.

David Hopkin’s men occupy the relegation play-off spot but still have eighth-placed Dumbarton, who are five points ahead, in their sights.

Following a disappointing 2-0 reversal to Raith Rovers last weekend, Gordon, 30, appreciates how important it is to pick up all three points in Clackmannanshire tomorrow.

“I think all of our remaining games are massive to be honest so tomorrow is no different,” he said. “But Alloa are obviously the team closest to us so we’re well aware we need to pick up the points.

“I personally don’t look at the table all that much as it’s about going into the game trying to get the three points. So many games in this league are decided by the odd goal or the team that scores first. We know a couple of results can change things very quickly.

“We’re always disappointed when we get beat but I think against Raith last weekend we had enough chances that we maybe could have taken something from the match. It was just poor the goals we lost as we wanted to build on the point picked up against Hibs recently.”

Having spent four seasons at the Indodrill Stadium, Gordon says he became accustomed to the controversial playing surface that has been criticised by several opposing players and managers of late.

“A lot of the players have experienced it before so it doesn’t really concern us,” he said. “You just have to turn up and play, it is what it is so it really doesn’t bother me. It’s a level playing field so everyone should just get on with it.”

Gordon enjoyed a triumphant return last September when Livi took all three points in a convincing 3-0 victory, but he won’t taking anything for granted come 3pm tomorrow.

“That game has been and gone so we know tomorrow is a completely different game.

“We can’t think about what happened earlier in the season but hopefully there will be a similar outcome come full time.

“It’s all about what I’m doing for Livingston now. I had a good four years at Alloa and had a bit of success but I’ll be doing my best to make sure we get the result for Livingston.”
