The former Spartans player landed awkwardly after an early challenge in the East of Scotland 2-2 draw with Heriot-Watt at Peffermill, midfielder Liam O’Donnell having to deputise in goal for the remainder of the game.

“We are all absolutely devastated for Kevin because it’s a game he was very much looking forward to,” said Lothian boss Raymond Carr. “It means we will have to make a couple of late calls to draft another goalkeeper in if we are able to.

“The boys will be determined to go out there on Wednesday and put a smile on Kevin’s face.”

An eye injury forced Swain to miss Spartans fifth-round replay with Berwick Rangers at Shielfield Park last season. Lothian’s goalscorers on Saturday were Darren Smith and Scott Gormley, with Scott Davies and Chris Donnelly
replying for the students.
