Bo’ness United – without the Livingston-bound Scott Pittman and suspended Nicky Walker – closed the gap at the top of the Super League thanks to a narrow win over relegation-threatened Carnoustie.
The home side should have taken the lead on 15 minutes when a superb Ian Nimmo pass put in Chris Donnelly, who dragged his shot wide.
Bo’ness went ahead on 65 minutes however when Will Snowdon fed Anderson, who cut it back for Ross Philp to score from close range.
The home side missed a great opportunity to seal the points when Snowdon blazed over a penalty after Cowan had been hauled down by Roddy Black. Bo’ness almost lived to regret the missed chances when Black saw his injury-time shot pushed behind by Stewart Baillie but they held out for the win.
