A CHRIS DONNELLY goal on 72 minutes proved the difference between the sides as Bo’ness United edged out Bonnyrigg Rose in this Scottish Junior Cup replay
Bo’ness won the possession battle and created the better chances in the first half. Four minutes in a Gribben corner fell for Hunter, but his shot was deflected wide.
On 22 minutes Bo’ness lost possession, allowing Renton to run through and only good defending by Hunter stopped the Bonnyrigg striker getting his shot in. Two minutes later Bo’ness broke up the park and Gribben fired over a good cross, but Donnelly hooked wide from ten yards.
Five minutes before the break Bo’ness came close to going ahead after strong play by Donnelly wide on the left. The ball broke to Sloan, who crossed and Bonnyrigg defender Horn was on the line to head clear from Murphy’s header.
Bonnyrigg looked as if they meant business at the start of the second half and pushed Bo’ness back. However the home defence stood firm. Bonnyrigg’s best opportunity came in 56 minutes when Renton’s cross was met by McDonald, whose header was easily gathered by Bo’ness keeper Peat.
Bo’ness worked themselves back and with just under 20 minutes remaining scored what proved to be the winner. Walker was brave as he headed the ball down the line and Gribben gathered to chip over, allowing Donnelly to volley the ball into the net from close in.
Just before the whistle Bonnyrigg’s misery was complete as Michael Gemmell was sent off with his second yellow card of the game.
