A Rampant Bo’ness despatched any threat Lochee had of taking any points back up the road to Dundee with a clinical display.
The hosts had enough chances in the first 45 minutes to win a dozen games but settled for a single strike from Ross Philp.
However, a further three strikes after the interval added a gloss to the final scoreline.
Philp’s goal was a perfect end to a flowing move that started deep in their own half and finished with the midfielder lobbing the ball over Josh Gray’s outstretched hands in the Lochee goal for the opener in the 28th minute.
The hosts found their shooting boots in the second half, Darren Gribben rising to loop a header into the net after 70 minutes for number two of the afternoon. A couple of minutes later and Chris Donnelly blasted a shot from 25 yards into the far bottom corner to make it three before substitute striker Mark Cowan hit an angled drive into the same corner for another stunning goal for number four.
McGonigal was pleased with a much-improved showing in the second half saying: “We had the gas in the tank when we needed it and those last 45 minutes were really good. Overall it was a good day for us. The attitude of the players is terrific with players like Colin Leiper leaving his honeymoon to come back and play. That says a lot in itself.
“We’re on a good run and long may it last. We have a huge game on Saturday at Kelty but it’s also a huge game for them as well. Something has to give.”
