BROXBURN won the Fairbairn Joiners and Builders Invitational Tournament at their own Albyn Park after beating a young Dundee side 3-2 in the final.
The hosts looked to have the game sewn up with a two-goal lead, the first through Scott Pittman and the second – scored by trialist Chris Geddes – being worthy of any goal of the season award. Dundee fought back hard, though, and eventually drew level with less than ten minutes remaining. Broxburn’s experience paid off, however, when David Morrison smashed home the winner from 30 yards.
Saturday’s matches saw Dundee take on Livingston where Craig Wighton, on his 16th birthday, scored a hat-trick as the Dens Park side ran out 6-1 winners. Broxburn beat Hamilton 3-2 in the second game of the afternoon to set up yesterday’s final. Livingston beat Hamilton 3-2 in the runners-up match.
Elsewhere in the Juniors, Linlithgow travelled to Kirkintilloch for a friendly with Rob Roy which finished 2 -2. They were two goals down before Tommy Coyne, from the penalty spot, and Roddy MacLennan, pulled them level.
Whitburn were at Eric Sinclair’s Kilsyth, but lost the game 2-1.
Newtongrange Star were down in Ayrshire to play the Scottish Junior Cup holders, Auchinleck, losing 2-1 with Craig O’Reilly getting Newtongrange’s goal. Musselburgh beat Edinburgh City 2-1 at Meadowbank with Michael McKenna and Mattu King on the scoresheet for Musselburgh.
Bo’ness lost 2-0 at Livingston United.
