Spartans are calling on Edinburgh football fans to help share the spirit of Christmas at Ainslie Park this Saturday.

The North Edinburgh side are offering free entry to the Lowland League Cup game against Stirling University (kick-off 3pm) for all supporters who ‘Donate at the Gate’ for the Spartans Community Football Academy Christmas Appeal.

Thanks to generous visitors to the Academy over the last two weeks, batches of donated items are already being prepared to hand over and kind hearted fans are asked to pop in a present this weekend to give the appeal a final boost.

Admission to Saturday’s game can be made by donating everyday items such as toothpaste, shower gel, basic clothing and non-perishable foods which will be distributed between two local organisations, Ashbrook Homeless Hostel & Granton Baptist Church.

Kenny Cameron, Spartans Academy Community Youth Leader said: “This is the fourth year we’ve done our appeal and it’s great to be supporting the Ashbrook again. It’s one of the highlights of my year handing over the sack full of gifts from us just before Christmas.

“This year we are delighted to also be supporting the Church’s Food Bank for the first time. When you hear how tough it is even for working families it’s harrowing. With everyone’s help this year we can ensure more families have enough food on the table around the Festive period.”
