Edina Hibs 14s ran out comfortable 3-0 winners in a Division 1 clash away to Edinburgh City Whites 14s at Forrester High School.
The visitors produced some slick attacking football from the start and caused the Edinburgh defence plenty of problems. Lewis Sives almost gave Edina the lead after 12 minutes when the ball fell to him in the box but his effort was well saved by Edinburgh goalie Lucas Scarpa.
Ten minutes later Edina went ahead when left back Nicholas Aitchison burst down the wing and a fired an angled shot into the far corner.
Edina grabbed their second after half an hour when Liam Edmonston pulled the ball back from the right and Seamus Russell tapped in from eight yards.
The win was sealed in the second half when Dean Burgess spun and smashed the ball into the roof of the net to round off a clinical display.
Spartans 19s stretch lead
Spartans Youth 19s extended their lead at the top of Division 2 with a narrow 2-1 over Newcraighall Leith Vics 19s at Spartans Academy. Newcraighall came out the stronger of the two sides early on and thought they had gone ahead 25 minutes when Ryan Sanderson had the ball in the net, but the referee ruled it out for offside. The decision sparked life into Spartans and they went ahead ten minutes later. Jamie Cairns made space for himself in the box before picking out the top corner of the net with a well-placed shot past Newcraighall keeper Campbell McLellan.
The visitors drew level in the 65th minute when Dale Maitland’s shot from outside the box took a slight deflection on its way into the net. The game became an end-to-end affair towards the end, with both sides looking for a winner. The hosts got it at the very end courtesy of a long-distance free-kick from Mario Falsone.
Redhall ease to victory
Redhall Star 15s guaranteed a semi-final spot in the Division 2 League Cup with an emphatic 6-0 win over Peebles 15s at Redhall Park.
After an end-to-end opening period, the hosts started to stamp their authority on the tie and the pressure eventually told. After a short corner, Jack Passmore whipped the ball into the box and Sam Donachie powered home a header.
After the striker grabbed his second of the game Nathan Robertson got on the scoresheet with a header six yards out to give Redhall a 3-0 lead at the break. Donachie then grabbed his hat-trick and Redhall’s fourth to cap a fine performance with a free-kick from outside the box.
Rory Taylor rattled in another for the West Edinburgh side after a quick one-two with Donachie. Then, towards the end, Robertson grabbed his second of the afternoon when he rounded the Peebles goalie to grab an impressive sixth for his side.
