TEN-MAN Edinburgh City were sent tumbling out of the South Region Cup semi-finals as a bad day started with a red card for defender Joe Mbu.
Despite the gluepot pitch, the play was fast and fluent, with Lowland League champions City the stronger side in the opening minutes.
Shots from McConnell and McFarland and a powerful header by Deniran put the home goal under threat, and in 23 minutes a City drive forced Maltoni to leave his box to head the ball clear.
But d Disaster struck for City in 28 minutes when Mbu received a straight red card for a challenge on Wallace, and although no contact was made referee Craig Napier deemed the tackle ‘studs up’.
BSC opened the scoring in 38 minutes, against the run of play. From McKinnon’s corner on the left, Callum Home sent in a powerful header which found the net via the back post. City battled strongly for an equaliser but the home side stretched their lead in injury time, Jordan Caddow’s slip on the poor surface allowing Aidan Malone to collect a long ball and shoot home from short range.
City adopted a more aggressive formation, MacDonald and Allum replacing Deniran and Harrison, but by now BSC were on top, and in 57 minutes scored a third, breaking out of defence with some superb one-touch football and with Malone clipping the final ball past Stobie. Malone secured his hat-trick from the penalty spot four minutes later after Mark McConnell was adjudged to have pushed Wallace in the back.
The visitors continued to press, Gair having a free-kick well saved and MacDonald shooting just wide. In 78 minutes Graham came close when City failed to clear their lines, and four minutes later Kieran O’Hear made it five following more fine passing. City’s McConnell was controversially red-carded ten minutes from time following a clash with Home. Graham had the ball in the City net in 86 minutes but was ruled offside.
