EDINBURGH UNIVERSITY lost out to a late Dalbeattie Star winner as they crashed 2-1 at East Peffermill.
The visitors went ahead in the fifth minute, Graham Bell rising well to power a header beyond Asher Tufail in the University goal.
Tim Rawlinson then delivered an excellent through ball to Jack Guthrie, whose low drive from 12 yards was well saved to Euan Drysdale’s left-hand side.
With good pace in wide areas provided by Lewis Dunn and Dean Fyfe, Dalbeattie remained dangerous throughout the first half as Fyfe went close on 37 minutes following a neat build-up. The students looked to have recovered their composure in the second half with Guthrie and Ross Patterson each reaching the byline before flashing balls across the Dalbeattie penalty area. Rawlinson then delivered an excellent through ball to Guthrie, whose low drive from 12 yards was well saved by Drysdale.
However, Uni levelled just after the hour when a deep cross from Stuart Macfarlane picked out Bertie Collins, who buried a header into the corner of the net.
However, Star snatched all three points late on as Stuart MacPherson’s header clipped the bar and flew into the net.
