Forget cup tie for now, says Musselburgh boss

MUSSELBURGH ATHLETIC boss Stevie McLeish has called on his side to focus on tomorrow’s Super League match at Lochee United before their attention turns to their Scottish Junior Cup quarter-final.

The Olivebank side will host Penicuik Athletic or Arthurlie next weekend in their first Junior Cup quarter-final since they finished runners-up in 2011.

“In many ways, the Scottish is a distraction,” said McLeish. “The players are so hyper about it that everything else is not really that important, but the league game tomorrow is very important for us. It’s just trying to remind them that the game against Lochee is just as important as the game the following week.”

Musselburgh came from 2-0 down with ten men against Sauchie last weekend to draw 2-2. McLeish was delighted with the resilience shown by his side, who have now lost just once in their last twelve games. He said: “In the last few months we have shown a bit of resolve and that’s coming across more and more now.”

Darren Smith will sit out tomorrow’s match as a precaution after taking a heavy knock against Sauchie.
